About me

Hi, I'm Emily! I'm a Teaching Associate Professor in the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Previously, I was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas. I did postdocs at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics at Brown University and at Duke University.

I obtained my Ph.D. from the then Department of Computer Science at Illinois under the guidance of Jeff Erickson. My dissertation was Fast Algorithms for Surface Embedded Graphs via Homology. You can learn more about my work from my CV.

I'm married to my amazing wife Carol, who completed a Ph.D. in Crop Sciences at Illinois shortly before I finished my Ph.D. We met during our first dance lesson with the Illini Swing Society. We have two children, a nine-year-old named Nathan and a five-year-old named Alexander.
